Location: Salinas, CA & Yuma, AZ
Employment Type: Year round with seasonal travel
SUMMARY: The Shipping Lead plays a crucial role in the logistics and operations of the shipping department. This position is responsible for overseeing daily cooler functions, ensuring effective organization and rotation of warehouse inventory, managing shipping reports, and evaluating finished shipments. The Shipping Lead also addresses employee-related challenges and ensures compliance with all regulations and company policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Shipping Supervisor in developing and implementing efficient processes and procedures within the Shipping department.
- Proactively communicate and report all inventory-related issues to the Supervisor in a timely manner.
- Work closely with the Inventory department and forklift drivers to facilitate smooth operations.
- Conduct daily Safety and Quality inspections of loading docks to ensure forklift drivers are operating in designated areas and that the environment is organized.
- Coordinate shipping logistics to guarantee on-time deliveries while maintaining the highest standards of product quality.
- Ensure proper rotation of warehouse stock, including aged products, stored in their designated areas to minimize waste.
- Assist in finding cost saving opportunities by implementing strategies to reduce and eliminate finished product dumps.
- Demonstrate the ability to make quick decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Assist in leading the training and development of new employees within the shipping department to ensure they understand processes, safety protocols, and company standards.
- Assist the department supervisor in monitoring the performance of shipping staff and provide constructive feedback to promote efficiency and accountability.
- Implement and maintain inventory tracking systems to ensure accurate counts and minimize discrepancies.
- Conduct quality checks on outgoing shipments to ensure compliance with company and customer standards.
- Assist department supervisor in actively addressing and resolving conflicts among team members to maintain a harmonious and productive work environment.
- Prepare and present detailed reports on shipping metrics, inventory levels, and operational efficiencies to department management team.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant shipping regulations and safety standards, including hazardous materials handling if applicable.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Driver License
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a forklift operator.
- Proficient in MS Office applications, particularly Excel for tracking and reporting purposes.
- Demonstrated ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations and solve practical problems using various mathematical techniques.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, with a focus on clarity and professionalism.
- Skilled in presenting information clearly and effectively in one-on-one and small group settings, fostering collaboration and teamwork.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- The work environment may vary, with moderate noise levels typical. Reasonable accommodation will be provided for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
- Be able to work in a cold environment (34-36 degrees F), consisting of regular exposure to refrigerated food manufacturing, to the smell of chlorine, heavy machinery, forklift traffic, loud noises and occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions
- Position requires seasonal travel and relocation
- General work schedule M-F 6am – 5pm, Saturdays if needed 6am – 5p.m. (Note working schedule is subject to change based on operational needs). Estimated 25%-30% Weekly Overtime during peak season.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Regularly required to sit, talk, and hear; frequently required to use hands for various tasks, including typing and handling documents.
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time, lift up to 50 pounds, bend, reach, stoop, and kneel.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Flexibility to work varied schedules, including weekends and evenings, as needed for event planning and implementation. Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings, as necessary for the planning and implementation of events
