Department: Food Safety & Quality Assurance

Reports to: Facility Food Safety & Quality Director

Location: San Juan Bautista, CA with some travel to Yuma, AZ

Rate: $72,000+ DOE


GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB: The Quality Assurance Supervisor & Analyst is responsible for overseeing daily QA operations, ensuring food safety compliance, and driving continuous improvement initiatives through data analysis. This role supervises QA Technicians, supports HACCP and GMP programs, and evaluates food safety trends to enhance quality assurance processes. While relocation is not required, this position may involve occasional travel to Yuma, AZ based on business needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise QA Technicians, ensuring adherence to HACCP, GMP, Organic Integrity, and food safety standards.
  • Lead pre-operational inspections, GMP checks, ATP testing, and environmental monitoring programs.
  • Maintain HACCP documentation, verify corrective actions, and oversee product hold and release procedures.
  • Ensure QA database accuracy, reviewing reports for compliance and corrective actions.
  • Train and mentor QA Technicians, providing ongoing education on SOPs, FSMA regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with production, receiving, and sanitation teams to address food safety and quality deviations.
  • Support mock recalls and traceability exercises to maintain regulatory compliance.

 

Analytical & Compliance Responsibilities

  • Analyze food safety and quality data, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
  • Lead root cause analysis efforts and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Develop dashboards and trend reports to track environmental monitoring, product quality, and compliance metrics.
  • Participate in internal, second-party, and third-party audits (Primus, FDA, Organic, etc.), ensuring audit readiness.
  • Evaluate QA testing equipment accuracy and support inventory management for QA supplies.
  • Research and apply new food safety monitoring methods to enhance quality control programs.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong leadership and team supervision
  • Ability to analyze QA data and trends to drive process improvements.
  • Excellent communication and training skills for QA staff development.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, FSMA, GMP, Organic Program Integrity, and food safety regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and QA software (e.g., Tableau, Safety Chain).
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, based on production needs.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Ag Science, Microbiology or a related field of science/or AA degree with minimum of 5 years of job experience (Same field)
  • Three (3) to Five (5) years of related experience in a food systems or food manufacturing environment with increasing levels of responsibility and authority; 3+ years of leadership experience strongly preferred
  • Experience and knowledge of fruit & fresh produce raw materials, production processes, quality control and cost management

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is exposed to a cold (34-36 degrees F) and wet manufacturing environment, the smell of chlorine, outside weather conditions, uneven walking surfaces, heavy machinery, forklift traffic and loud noise.
