Maintenance Line Mechanic

Starting Rate: $22.25+
Location: San Juan Bautista, CA and Yuma, AZ
SUMMARY: Performs preventive maintenance on all production line equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
- Proficient in equipment Lock-Out/Tag-Out requirements.
- Working knowledge of OSHA, FDA and GMP requirements as they pertain to maintenance activities at a food processing facility.
- Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic control systems.
- Install and setup equipment (drives, flow sensors etc.) using vendors’ manuals and specifications.
- Mechanical drive fundamentals, i.e. chain drive sprocket and gearbox ratios etc.
- Replace slicer/cutter blade assemblies and perform the necessary adjustments.
- Replace automated equipment mechanical components.
- Rebuilt gearboxes, power drives, centrifugal pumps and replace mechanical shaft seals.
- Proficient in the use of standard hand tools such as wrenches, hammers, bearing pullers and power tools such as drills, grinders, cut-off saws, impact wrenches.
- Thoroughly understand and be able to maintain all of the spin dryers.
- Respond to trouble calls and emergency conditions as requested.
- Knowledgeable in programming and troubleshooting Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
- Read electrical diagrams and identify individual components.
- Working knowledge of electrical testing equipment such as multimeter, megger, etc.
- Knowledgeable with low voltage control circuits such as in our automated equipment.
- Understand ladder logic to troubleshoot problems from a laptop computer.
- Able to read piping diagrams and identify the function of various components for air and water distribution systems.
- Must be proficient in liquid pumping principles and able to read pump flow curves.
- Troubleshoot systems up to 480 volts with complicated electrical controls and wire three phase motors.
- Troubleshoot the central Liquid chlorine system and electrical system.
- Knowledgeable with low voltage control circuits such as in our automated equipment.
- Understand components of a PLC system upload and download programs at a minimum.
- Run electrical conduit and be knowledgeable of code requirements.
- Proficient in Nitrogen Generation and bulk Nitrogen systems.
- Proficient in Magnetic Flow Meters and Compressed Air System.
- Operate and repair ammonia system components and electrical controls
- Working knowledge of computerized refrigeration monitoring/control program.
- Thoroughly understand the complete refrigeration cycles within the plant.
- Respond to ammonia system trouble calls and emergency conditions as requested.
- Troubleshoot power distribution systems.
- Install an electrical run from an electrical power panel to the end user point up to 480 volts. Installation is defined by designing the circuit, creating the schematic, ordering parts and completing the hardware installation.
- Proficient in Sodium Hypochlorite(Chlorine) and PH buffer (Smart Wash) Injection systems
- Proficient in the operating principles of hydraulic systems and able to troubleshoot and repair their mechanical components.
- Rebuild liquid feed pumps such as centrifugal and positive displacement pumps.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Required: 1 year or more experience as a Line Mechanic within a produce processing plant or related manufacturer.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Team player who will exceed assigned responsibilities and assist others to reach objectives
- Willingness and ability to work occasional long and sometimes irregular hours including working night shifts, weekends and holiday hours.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
- RETA Certification
- Able to travel/relocate to and from Yuma, AZ as required
- Pass the Forklift Certification within one month of hire.
- Able to read/write in English and communicate in Spanish.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is exposed to a cold (34-36 degrees F) and wet manufacturing environment, the smell of chlorine and ammonia, outside weather conditions, uneven walking surfaces, heavy machinery, forklift traffic and loud noise.
