GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB: The Controller will spearhead our accounting department, driving the strategic and operational direction of all financial operations. The position is responsible for all aspects of accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and financial analysis. This leadership role demands a proactive, hands-on approach to overseeing financial processes, crafting and executing financial strategies, and ensuring precise and timely financial reporting. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance, paired with outstanding leadership capabilities to inspire and guide a high-performing team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accounting Operations & Policies
- Oversee and manage all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and the general ledger, ensuring efficiency and accurate financial reporting.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to optimize operational efficiency and mitigate risk.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a collaborative, growth-oriented, and high-performing work environment.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to align financial operations with strategic initiatives and support the company’s business growth objectives.
- Manage and direct all operational and production key performance indicator reporting.
Closing Processes & Audit Management
- Oversee and enhance the month-end and year-end closing processes and financial reporting, ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
- Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, tax advisors, and other financial partners to support regulatory audits, tax filings, and compliance reporting.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Lead the preparation, review, and presentation of financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses, providing actionable insights to senior management.
- Ensure strict compliance with GAAP, internal policies, and external regulatory requirements, maintaining the integrity of financial audits and reporting.
- Conduct thorough analysis of financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings or revenue growth.
- Prepare profitability analysis of commodities and harvesting activities.
- Analyze and improve processes related to financial, production and operational reporting.
- Prepare cost analysis in support of operational decision making, budgeting and strategic planning.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of accounting software and ERP systems development and utilization of business intelligence.
- Experience with Famous software a plus.
- Experience managing and mentoring staff.
- Ag industry experience a plus.
- Able to travel as required by the job.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Team-oriented with the ability to work independently.
- Ambitious self-starter with exceptional problem-solving skills.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented.
