GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB: The Carton Yard Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Carton Yard, ensuring the efficient and safe handling, storage, and transportation of cartons and related materials. This role includes supervising a team of yard workers, coordinating logistics, managing forklift operations for loading and unloading materials, maintaining inventory accuracy, and ensuring the quality of incoming materials. The supervisor will also be responsible for organizing storage, overseeing daily material inventory, managing employee schedules, and ensuring compliance with safety standards throughout all yard activities and operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise and lead a team of yard workers, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations to ensure high levels of productivity and safety.
- Oversee the proper storage, organization, and retrieval of cartons in the yard, ensuring efficient layout and easy access for operations.
- Assist in managing inventory processes, including conducting regular counts, reconciling discrepancies, and ensuring the accuracy of material records.
- Coordinate the unloading, loading, and transport of cartons to designated areas or vehicles while maintaining a smooth flow of materials.
- Implement and monitor yard safety practices, including powered industrial trucks (PIT) ensuring strict adherence to company safety policies, local regulations, and conducting regular safety audits.
- Develop and implement process improvements to optimize space utilization, reduce waste, and increase operational efficiency.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free yard environment while managing day-to-day yard maintenance tasks.
- Address any operational challenges or issues, such as equipment malfunctions, staffing shortages, or workflow disruptions. Report findings to direct manager or director.
- Communicate effectively with the management team to resolve issues impacting carton materials and ensure seamless operations.
- Manage and process all bills of lading (BOLs) and purchase orders (POs) for carton yard locations, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
- Perform electronic filing of all BOLs by vendor and PO number, ensuring proper tracking and recordkeeping.
- Conduct weekly inventory reconciliations and investigate any discrepancies to maintain inventory accuracy.
- Ensure inventory turnover and proactively communicate potential problems related to inventory management.
- Implement and manage the receiving tracing system, print pallet tags, and oversee the physical count of inventory.
- Work closely with harvest and sales teams to understand and anticipate upcoming needs for materials and shipments.
- Assist with receiving and purchasing group training to ensure all team members are well-equipped to handle their responsibilities.
- Support employee performance and conduct, including managing disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Be flexible and available to travel or move between multiple locations, including Salinas, CA, Holtville, CA, and Yuma, AZ, as required.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent; degree in logistics, operations management, or related field preferred.
- 2-3 years of experience in warehouse or yard operations, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
- Strong understanding of inventory management, forklift operations, and yard logistics.
- Certified PIT Trainer. (a plus)
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
- Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in warehouse or yard environments.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency with inventory management software and Microsoft Office.
- Team player who will exceed assigned responsibilities and assist others to reach objectives
- Strong oral and written communication skills to deliver technical information in an easily understood manner across all departments
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Typically, a yard/warehouse environment. General Schedule M-F 7am to 5pm. Up to 2 Saturday’s a month 4-6 hours. (Note working schedule is subject to change based on operational needs)
- Day travel between San Juan Bautista, CA to King City, CA. 2x a month
- Require seasonal travel to Yuma, AZ.
- During Yuma season: Day travel between Yuma, AZ to Holtville, AZ.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Frequent use of computers, phones, and other office equipment.
- Frequent use of PIT equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
- Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
- Required to wear safety equipment such as hard hats, gloves, and steel-toed boots.
