Pay Range: Depends on experience

Location: Salinas, CA with seasonal relocation to Imperial Valley

Employment Type: Year round


GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB: Direct the overall harvest operations for the broccoli department. Facilitate company goals regarding strategy development, volume forecasting, and cost management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, coordinate, and direct harvest operations, including quality, productivity, employee relations, customer relations, food safety, equipment safety, and personal safety and grower relations.
  • Identify and take steps to prevent potential situations that could result in unpleasant confrontations. Manage and resolve conflicts and disagreements in a positive and constructive manner to minimize negative impact.
  • Plan and coordinate operational analysis, including process and cost analysis and   performance report cards. Research new products and processes.
  • Anticipate and meet the needs of clients; achieve quality end-products; committed to improving services.
  • Assure that effective controls are developed and maintained to ensure the integrity of the organization. Holds self and others accountable for rules and responsibilities. Can be relied upon to ensure that projects within areas of specific responsibility are completed in a timely manner and within budget. Monitor and evaluate plans, focused on results and measuring attainment of outcomes.
  • Balance interests of a variety of clients; readily readjusts priorities to respond to pressing and changing client demands. Anticipate and meet the need of clients; achieve quality end-products; committed to continuous improvement of services and processes.

 

  • Exercise good judgment by making sound and well-informed decisions; perceive the impact and implications of decisions; make effective and timely decisions, even when data is limited or solutions produce unpleasant consequences; proactive and achievement oriented.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • 3-5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Effectively oversee and manage a team of 100+ employees, ensuring productivity, performance, and operational efficiency

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to travel and relocate to the different harvest areas up to 50% of the time.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

  • Bilingual/biliterate – fluency in both written and spoken English/Spanish preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  
  • Ability to communicate effectively to all levels of employees.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
