Pay Range: $95K+

Job Site: Salinas and Imperial Valley, CA with period travel to Huron, CA

The Safety department is currently seeking an outstanding candidate to fill the EHS Manager who can contribute to the overall growth and success of the company.

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB: As an EHS Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and well-being of personnel engaged in harvesting/farming operations. Position will support overseeing safety protocols, conducting inspections, and implementing measures to mitigate risks associated with harvesting/farming activities. This role will contribute to maintaining a safe working environment and promoting adherence to regulatory standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Safety Oversight 

  • Recommend and assist leading of safety policies, procedures, and guidelines specific to harvesting/farming operations.
  • Support regular safety meetings and training sessions to educate personnel on safety protocols and best practices.
  • Collaborate with management to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and provide recommendations for preventive measures.

2. Inspections and Audits:

  • Perform routine inspections of harvesting/farming equipment, machinery, and facilities to identify potential hazards or safety deficiencies.
  • Conduct audits of work practices to assess compliance with safety policies and regulations.
  • Document inspection findings and track corrective actions to resolution.

3. Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment: 

  • Identify and evaluate hazards associated with harvesting/farming activities, such as machinery operation, manual handling, and exposure to chemicals.
  • Support with risk assessments to prioritize safety initiatives and allocate resources effectively.
  • Maintain control measures to mitigate identified risks, including engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment (PPE).

 

4. Emergency Preparedness:

  • Support, recommend and maintain emergency response plans for various scenarios, including accidents, spills, and medical emergencies.
  • Coordinate drills and exercises to test the effectiveness of emergency procedures and improve response capabilities.
  • Ensure that all personnel are trained in emergency protocols and evacuation procedures.

5. Training and Education:

  • Provide training to employees on safe work practices, equipment operation, and hazard recognition.
  • Facilitate certification programs for relevant safety certifications, such as forklift, tractor and machinery operation, first aid, and CPR.
  • Help promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability through ongoing communication and engagement.

6. Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Collect and analyze safety data, including incident reports, injury statistics, and near-miss data, to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Prepare regular reports and presentations for management, highlighting safety performance metrics and recommending corrective actions.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field (preferred) or proven experience in safety management, preferably in agricultural or industrial settings.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety regulations and standards, such as OSHA.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage employees at all levels.
  • Proficiency in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
  • Certification in CPR, first aid, forklift and tractor operation (preferred).
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to relocate
